KORIDOR
(corridor)
50
ARTISTS FROM EAST TO WEST
APRIL
26 - MAY 20, 2000
GALLERY X
presents KORIDOR, an international exhibition of art works, celebrating
the Turkish Cultural Festival. The exhibition will be held at the Gallery
at Asia Minor Carpets at 236, Fifth Ave, second floor. The opening reception
will be on Wednesday, April 26th, from 7-10 pm. The exhibition will run
through May 20, 2000. 'KORIDOR' is the Turkish equivalent of the English
'corridor'. It is a channel for artists who come together for this show,
participating in a passegeway for unique and remarkable work. The corridor
is a venue for art. It leads to questions and answers, and also to plain
statements. This is the first KORIDOR, a gathering of contemporary artists
from this country and abroad, whose paths cross in New York and branch
off to other corridors, creating a labyrinth of art. It is a record of
their passage from one millennium to another.
Curator Gulsun
Erbil, owner of Gallery X, states: 'I was born and raised in Turkey. After
living in London for a decade, I moved to New York City in 1994. I thought
it would be exciting to bring Turkish artists together with international
artists in a group-show. Here East truly meets West. One sees that the
juxtaposition of artists from different backgrounds creates a unique asthetic
that might someday be closer to representing the aesthetics of a global
metropole.'
Of the fifty
exhibiting artists, all have been affiliated with Gallery X through the
exhibition and performance program. They represent several artistic mediums,
paintings, prints, three dimensional work, impelled in different ways
by the same force: Innate, individual creativity and artistic expression.
The KORIDOR
Exhibition is open from Monday to Friday, visiting hours are 9:30 am until
5:30 pm. ASIA MINOR CARPETS & Gallery is on the second floor of 236
Fifth Ave. (between 27th and 28th streets) New York, NY 10001.
This exhibition
is organized by TURKISH CULTURAL FESTIVAL, is curated by GALLERY X and
the artists gratefully acknowledge the space provided by the gallery at
ASIA MINOR CARPETS.
